If you live in the city when a widespread disaster strikes, you may have no choice but to bug out to a safer location. The problem is, everyone else will be bugging out, too. All the roads out of town will become parking lots as everyone scrambles to leave at the same time.
In order to bug out, you need a reliable vehicle that can go off-road. That means your old-but-dependable Honda Civic just won’t cut it. If you try to go off-road in one of those, you’re liable to get stuck somewhere and end up worse off than if you had just stayed at home.

Of course, an off-road capability isn’t the only thing you should consider when choosing a vehicle for the apocalypse. There are many other factors to consider. For example: fuel type, practicality, cost, durability, and so forth.
You might even consider some options other than traditional automobiles, and that is the topic of this video by Canadian Prepper. A car or truck isn’t your only bug out option. There are other types of vehicles that might work better for you, depending on your situation.
Here are 10 vehicles for the apocalypse.

- Horses
- Handcars
- Balloons
- Boats
- Gasification
- Vegetable Oil
- Hand carts
That’s the list, but there is a LOT more information on each type of vehicle in the video below, so be sure to watch it and let us know what you think.
The odds of an E.M.P. event happening are possibly astronomical. An E.M.P. strike is a DEFENSIVE weapon. Let’s say you zap a city. Only Fed. GOVT. computer networks will be E.M.P. shielded.
civilian powe0r plants will be knocked out. so will computer networks. An invading army will need to restore them if they want to occupy the city. Why not capture the city by using infiltration? You could capture the power plants before they are destroyed.
How often do you see someone driving an E.M.P. proof vehicle(one made before 1976) now a days?
Few people want to drive a car that old now a days.
Zmz reloaded talked about this and he went through in an interesting way so I say check it out
If am EMP strike all that electric stuff is worth less if it has any type of computer onboard. Especially electric cars. What does vegetable oil have to do with a bug out vehicle? Hand car you will need railroad tracks near by. Pushing that handle up and down not getting far unless in great physical shape. With gasification what will be used to get that high temperature needed?
Hand cart
Used by some pioneers back in the 1800 to cross the plains
Electric vehicles may or may not operate after an EMP. No one seems to know that for sure. Depends on the strength of the pulse and the sensitivity of the electronic components. However, I really doubt the majority will be able to generate enough electricity to recharge an electric car. And if you have to bug out, it would be easier to scavenge for fuel (abandoned homes/vehicles) than find a recharging source. Are there electric cars that could go off-road to bypass the congested roads? I haven’t seen any… My choice is to go with the manual and alternate fuel options.
A dual fuel vehicle with a CNG kit. Run on gas,cng/lng, and propane(with an adjustable regulator). Every major city has refuse trucks and busses that run on cng. If shtf really happens i dont think people will flock to trash yards….hundreds of gallons of cng at those yards. Can transfer fuel with ease in minutes.
