Canadian Prepper is probably the best survival-related channel on Youtube. He’s made hundreds of high-quality videos on a variety of topics. This particular video is on a topic that isn’t discussed often enough: survival psychology.
People in the first world live such easy, cushy lives compared to everyone else. Yes, even those of you who work long hours and have trouble paying the bills still live a much more comfortable lifestyle than most people in the world. So when the shit hits the fan, most people–even preppers–will be completely unprepared for the mental toll it will take.
Just imagine having to live with the constant threat of dangerous people, rampant disease, or lack of water. That kind of stress is on a whole other level than the stress of going into debt or working through the weekend. Fortunately, every human being has the ability to endure extreme levels of stress without cracking up (short of pure torture).
But this video isn’t just about handling stress in a survival scenario; it’s about handling stress in everyday life. After all, first you need to learn how to handle daily problems before you can handle SHTF problems.
I highly encourage you to watch this video as it’s one of the most inspiring things I’ve seen in a while. Plus, Canadian Prepper is a mental health counselor who pulled himself up by his bootstraps and accomplished great things despite many disadvantages, so he knows what he’s talking about. Odd as this sounds, those who have experienced homelessness are more mentally prepared in the first world.
Although it is a painful experience, most people make the best of it. When you have no choice, and you’re forced to practice your survival skills, you can see it in a positive light & make note of how you manage thru the predicament.
1-Keep your sense of humor
2-Down coats & sleeping bags
3-Figure out the right layers for winter warmth during the summer
4-Get comfortable with the modern things (bicycles, buses, laundromats, coffee shops), but don’t forget what your grandparents used (washtubs, walking, wood stoves, hand-sewing, knitting)
5-Survival foods include
Bananas (tryptophan converted to serotonin fights depression)
Salmon & Avocado salad (Monounsaturated fats for heart health)
Make ur own gel caps of pure cayenne pepper & turmeric (gel caps are a unique delivery mechanism as u may need to eat 10 before a meal (30/day) to fight a cold; turmeric balances the heat of cayenne, and improves knee & shoulder joints)
6- A loofah is better than a washcloth sometimes
Does modern society need someone to tell them this strategy…seriously!
some people will need to have this knowledge repeatedly pounded into their heads before they finally get the message.
Haven’t watched the video yet, so if I repeat something said, forgive me. But one thing I’ve taught myself, is to not use phrases like “never surrender”, or “don’t stop”, because all 4 of those words, are negative words. It puts a small seed of doubt in the back of the mind. A good phrase to live by is “keep going”. No negative words associated with that phrase. Just my 2 cents. Now to watch the video.
