If you could buy a bug out location in any American state, which one would you choose? You probably already have a couple of states in mind, and it’s fun to think about. But if you have the opportunity to do it for real, there are many factors you should consider before making a decision.
In this video, Reality Survival took a very systematic approach to determining the best states for a bug out location.

He considered the following factors:
- Population density
- Concealed carry laws
- No state income tax
- Property tax (5 lowest)
- Cost of living (10 lowest)
- Sales tax (10 lowest)
- Tax on military retirement pay
- Stand your ground laws
- Castle doctrine but duty to retreat
- Property tax (5 highest)
- Plant hardiness zones
- Overall climate
- Political climate
If the population density was under 50 people per square mile, he gave it two points. For the next seven factors, he gave the state one point if it qualified. He used the last five factors to decide which states to exclude, regardless of their points. The states that remained and with the most points are the best places to bug out.
This is a really clever way to narrow down the best states for a bug out location. If you wanted, you could use this template but change a couple factors or modify the number of points for each depending on what’s most important to you. That way you can generate your own list.

I could not even find the video. Clicked on the arrow to see the video but no page popped up showing the video. I may have missed it, but it is NOT clear/obvious. Sucks. I agree just provide a text, screw the video.
Print it out! I don’t watch videos!
And what are the best states? I dislike watching videos.
I agree!!!
And print out the text of the video. I hate watching videos.
It would be great if he could provide a link to download his spreadsheet.
