How To Build An Urban Everyday Carry Pack

How To Build An Urban Everyday Carry PackIt seems like the older I get, the more things I need to carry around. It used to be wallet, phone, keys, and that was it. Now I have a knife, a lighter, a multitool, and a bunch of other EDC items, and even cargo pants don’t have enough pockets for everything. I need an urban EDC pack.

If you’re reluctant to carry a bag around everywhere, consider this: What if you cut yourself and need a Band-Aid ASAP? What if your phone is dead and you need to charge it up? What if something breaks and you need a multitool or some duct tape to fix it? Obviously, you can’t carry all of these things in your pockets.

In this video, The Prepared Wanderer talks about what he put in his pack and why. This is one of the most realistic and practical EDC packs I’ve ever seen.

Here’s what he included:

  • Bandana
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Nite Ize biner
  • Sharpie metal pen
  • Coin purse
  • Notebook pad
  • Paracord
  • Painkillers
  • Toilet paper
  • Off! towelettes
  • Band-Aids
  • Decongestant
  • Phone charger
  • Tool bits
  • Lighter
  • Mini screwdriver
  • Batteries
  • Eating tool
  • Duct tape
  • Power bank
  • Mini light
  • Gloves
  • Zip ties
  • Multitool
  • Head lamp
  • Flashlight
  • Handgun
  • Water bottle

Be sure to watch the video below to learn more about the particular items he chose and why.

What about antihistamine pills and/or ointment. Could be life saving to some.

Seriously? You start your whole article with a less-than-subtle sexist statement? As a woman I carry almost everything on that list in my bag.

Hmm, I didn’t really think of it as sexist when I wrote it, but I see your point. Why would I assume that only men carry these things? My bad.

She most certainly is! How many guys do you know are going to cop an attitude over what was written?

Some people are just looking to be the victim. And it’s getting old.

        Must’ve been edited out.
But the last thing we need if SHTF are paper-skinned people who worry about fkn WORDS.
90% of us will die if the electric grid goes down.
Odds are I’m GONNA offend somebody, and don’t care now, even with electricity.

I keep a pair or 2 of small swimming goggles in my kit to protect eyes from smoke, dust, tear gas, pepper spray, etc. And don’t forget latex gloves.

Another name for an Every Day Carry bag is a Get Home Bag
where your regular GHB in your vehicle is unobtainable and
you’ve got a three day hike ahead of you.

Things I would almost certainly miss. . .

Water purification tabs / coffee filters.
    Antibiotic ointment or wipes.
    Iodine tabs.
    Anti-diarrhea tabs.
    Sleeping pills
Boonie cap & disposable hooded parka.
    Gloves.
    Change underwear & socks.
    Medications.
    Sunglasses
    N-95 masks.
Power bars or meal replacement bars (eating tool?)

The reason men don’y carry purses? There are no Pants Snatchers, just Purse Snatchers

Instead of Toilet Paper, consider a carry pack of Baby Wipes. First, TP is worthless once it gets wet. Second, Baby Wipes not only clean better, they can clean other areas besides your bum. Third, If they dry out, a small amount of water makes them 100% again.

You might also consider a sillcock key.

I don’t know who started this idea, but it is crazy. You will not have water pressure post SHTF,( no electricity, no water pressure), so a sillcock key will be almost worthless.
All you might get is the remainder of water in the buildings pipes, although chances are it will be vacuum-locked inside the pipes.
So at best, that may be be a very slow drip, unless you can open a faucet inside the building to release the vacuum pressure.

As long as you don’t mind waiting for hours to fill a bottle and while waiting you will have to fight off any one else wanting that water, then this is a great idea. LOL

There are much better ways of getting water in an urban area.

Thanks. I didn’t know this. I was considering a sillcock key but I was on the fence because fresh water is abundant here. Really, really abundant. I’ll stick with filters.
