Sometimes I’m amazed at how spoiled modern Americans are. And to be honest, I have to include myself. Every day I get to take a warm shower, live in an air-conditioned home, drink fresh water, eat delicious food, watch entertaining shows, and sleep in a comfy bed. I try to remind myself just how lucky I am, but sometimes I go days without thinking about it.
Unfortunately, most people never think about how lucky they are. They don’t think about the fact that for the vast majority of human history, there was no fast food, electricity, indoor plumbing, air conditioning, or entertainment on demand.

They take it all for granted. And because of this, they’ll be that much more miserable when the grid goes down. Not only will they be unprepared physically (food storage, water purification, etc), they will be unprepared psychologically. Even if they get enough of the basics to survive, some people will literally go insane.
In this video, Canadian Prepper talks about the top 10 things people will miss when the grid goes down. Here’s his list:
10. Baths / Showers
9. Makeup
8. Communication
7. Internet
6. Toilet Paper
5. Lighting
4. Medicine
3. Caffeine
2. Food
1. Running Water

In the video below, he goes into detail about how people will react when these things are gone. It’s interesting to think about what life will be like for the average person after the SHTF, and it just motivates me to get even more prepared. Watch it below:

I hv seen svl sites where they show their preps, where the tp is stacked & taking up room, if they wld tk out the cylinder & put the tp into a tote they could probably get abt 40 rolls of tp in it, then they cld stack the totes & hv more tp saved. they can use the cylinders to put cotton balls, lint, etc into to make fire starters. just a thought
Makeup? Really? anybody who is worried about makeup during SHTF is in for a rude awakening..
I can handle just about all the topics you mentioned (fabulous vid by the way!), but I will most miss the civility of mankind. How can I willingly help someone when they’re holding a gun to my head?
Living in Dallas during 9/11, I missed the comforting sound of airplanes. Now, I live in the country, so airplane noises aren’t as re-assuring. I will miss the comfortable quietness, because any noise in dangerous times will be deafening. Also, the distant sound of gunfire now is “Billy Bob” target practicing, or “Jeb” just shot a deer. In SHTF, listening to gunfire will be like listening to thunder now – is the noise getting closer, or farther away?
Am I spoiled?? Yes!!
But, every day, morning and night, I thank God for my blessings..and at each meal if it is a ‘sit down at the table’ one.
I line dry all my clothes, so that is not something I’ll have to adapt to.
Fuel for my small motorcycle! (Mobility is omni.) Speedway motorcycles run on alcohol- I will modify my motor to do that. (distill my own fuel. Drink the leftovers.)
Refridgeration, freezer, air conditioning. I live in the southeast. Washing machine and dryer. Some people will probably go insane without their social media.
