Many preppers like to hoard cash and precious metals in case of an economic collapse. The cash is in case of a deflationary collapse where banks run out of money and cash is hard to find. And precious metals are in case of a hyperinflationary collapse where banks print too much money and cash becomes worthless.

But what if things get so bad that people have no use for cash or precious metals? It’s happened before–in Argentina, in Greece, and right now in Venezuela. If that happens in your country, you’ll want to have some good barter items on hand.
In this video, City Prepping talks about inexpensive barter items you should start buying right now. As he says, they should be:
- Inexpensive Items
- Items That Store Long Term
- Items That Are Valuable To You
Here’s his list, to but learn more about these items, watch the video below.

Could some one please describe a SHTF situation that can seriously happen in the U.S. ? ( hurricanes; earthquakes, floods, tornados, and forest fires, and blizzards do not count).
Power grid going down. It happened in Canada before.
Economic collapse look at Venezuela
Buy unscented wipes. Divide them into short stacks to dry.
Use your vacuum sealer to reduce them into small lightweight bricks. A tub with thousands and thousands of dried out wipes will be lightweight, easy to move and take up little space. Add a small amount of water to reconstitute If or when needed. Use for TP, bandages, filters. fire starter or for personal hygiene.
We have stockpiled liquor. Preserved foods!. TP, well, I have cut 5×8 T-shirt squares, stocked piled Kleenex for TP as well. No need for fem items, but cloth ones can be made as well. I have also stockpiled hand cranked kitchen tools… Gotta eat! All kinds of goodies for the “event”
fem items can also be used for first aid …….
I would add hard candies to the list. Hard candies keep long term just vacuum pack it. It will keep where chocolate candy will not. But coco powder will.
Never trade ammo it can come back on you. I would not let anyone know that I had extra ammo. I would pick any that I could in trade even I did not currently have a firearm that uses it
If it is truly SHTF trading away anything that might be used against you is foolish.
For example ammo.
For my family, we chose the three “T’s” for trading. Toilet paper, tobacco, and tampons. Indefinite shelf life. And everyone is going to want at least one of those items. Maybe we should now think about stockpiling coffee an alcohol as well.
What are the top items you don’t want to live without? Female hygiene products, tile paper and water. One of my biggest storage investments has been water purification. People will trade most anything for water if they are thirsty.
