If you plan on riding out the next disaster in an urban or suburban area, you should consider setting up a safe room in your home. There are going to be a lot of hungry and desperate people out there, and homes like yours will be targets.
Most preppers are confident they can use their guns to take out an intruder or two, but what if it’s a dozen intruders all at once? If that happens, you’ll need a safe room you can retreat to until the threat is gone.
The Organic Prepper put together a massive article explaining what a safe room is, why you need one, where to put it, what to put in it, how to reinforce the doors and walls, and much more.
This is a fantastic resource for urban survivalists who don’t plan on bugging out unless they absolutely have to. Follow the link below to check it out.
I’m not sure I can get behind the safe room idea. If you have a big house and lots of money to spend it might work but the concept of hiding in a small hidden area seems like a bad idea to me. What if you are discovered or the invaders decide to move in the house thinking it is vacant? I would rather have multiple exit strategies and defense strategies than a room to hide in. My “safe room” is actually my entire upstairs living area. There’s only one way up and it is a death funnel for anyone that tries to come up the stairs.
