Of all the tools you can use to cook food off the grid, the best one (in my opinion) is the Dutch oven. Every prepper who is concerned about long-term power outages should get a Dutch oven and learn how to use it. Why? Well for one thing, a good cast iron Dutch oven can literally last your entire lifetime if you take care of it. And for another, you can use Dutch ovens to make almost anything: soups, stews, breads, casseroles, desserts, you name it!
Theresa from Survivopedia recently put together a guide to Dutch oven cooking. She explains the various types of Dutch ovens, how to season them, how to get them to the temperature you need, and she even includes a couple videos.
She writes, “Pioneers no doubt had to make some rough choices about what to take and what to leave behind when they made the voyage west. One thing that they didn’t even consider leaving behind, though, was their Dutch oven.
“This marvelous piece of cookware is so versatile that it warranted a spot in the precious little space inside a covered wagon.” Follow the link below to keep reading.
