When people can their own food, they usually can one food per jar–beans, carrots, corn, peas, etc. Some people go a little further and make their own jam or salsa. But during a power outage, these foods are really only the makings of a larger meal. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an entire meal in a jar? That way you could just heat it up and eat it–no cooking, no mess.
Off The Grid News posted an article with a few recipes for full meals in a jar including: firehouse chili, chicken vegetable soup, sloppy joe mix, and spaghetti sauce with meat. Even there isn’t a power outage, jars of these would be great to have any time you want to have a nice meal but don’t have time to cook.
Julie writes, “You’ve probably canned peaches or made your own freezer jam, but have you ever thought about canning actual meals? Forget commercial canned stews and soups, which are usually full of sodium, MSG and other preservatives, and can your own meals instead. I love to serve these foods for a quick lunch or weeknight meal.” Follow the link below to keep reading.
