I really enjoy disaster movies and novels, but I try to remind myself that they’re fictional. In real life, disasters often don’t play out the way people expect.
For example, you might imagine the shit hitting the fan all at once: The dollar collapses, the grid goes down, the food trucks stop, the people riot, everyone starves to death… And meanwhile, you and your family are hanging out at the homestead, growing food, cooking dinner, playing card games by candlelight, and generally enjoying yourselves while the world goes to Hell all around you.
Of course it wouldn’t be that easy, and it probably wouldn’t happen that quickly, either. So if that’s what you’re imagining, then you might not be preparing properly. The Prepper Journal published an eye-opening article that goes into more detail.
